Submacular hemorrhage following cataract surgery in a patient with long axial length

چکیده
Introduction: Subretinal hemorrhage is most commonly associated with choroidal neovascular membrane secondary to age-related macular degeneration (ARMD). Case presentation: A case of submacular hemorrhage is described in a 69-year-old male with dry age-related macular degeneration (ARMD) hours after undergoing an uncomplicated, routine cataract surgery of the left eye. Methods and results: Fluoroscein angiography (FA) performed the day after surgery showed a hypofluorescent lesion corresponding to the subretinal hemorrhage. Intravitreal bevacizumab, tissue plasminogen activator (TPA), and C3F8 were given and the visual acuity (VA) improved to 20/40 on the 2-month follow-up visit. Conclusion: To our knowledge, this is the first atypical case in which subretinal hemorrhage occurred shortly after routine cataract surgery as a result of weakening of Bruch’s membrane associated with long axial length.

Successful displacement of a traumatic submacular hemorrhage in a 13-year-old boy treated by vitrectomy, subretinal injection of tissue plasminogen activator and intravitreal air tamponade: a case report
BACKGROUND The natural course of submacular hemorrhage resulting from traumatic choroidal rupture generally has a poor outcome unless treated. The intravitreal injection of gas only or gas with recombinant tissue plasminogen activator (rt-PA) has been reported to be effective, but has also been reported to induce severe complications such as retinal detachment and vitreous hemorrhage. Recently,...

OBJECTIVE To investigate the relationship between axial length, myopia of the eye, and the severity of lens opacity at the time of cataract surgery. METHODS We retrospectively reviewed a consecutive series of 198 eyes of patients aged older than 50 years at Fukui University Hospital (Fukui, Japan) from June 2004 to December 2005. Patient age at the time of surgery, axial length, spherical equ...

Background and Objective: Ocular biometry refers to the measurement of the axial length of the eye and thickness of the intraocular structures. This process is routinely performed for all patients before cataract surgery. The accuracy of the biometric data is directly associated with the refractive status after cataract surgery. Currently, two methods of biometry, namely ultrasound and optical ...
